Bikes were donated to us for staff to take a bike ride during the day and enjoy the walking/biking trail in the Zumbrota community. 

 

Workplace Wellness Partner Story:

Workplace Wellness at Three Rivers Community Action.

First we would like to thank Live Well Goodhue County for their support on this project.

We wanted to get people involved and motivated in creating a lifelong healthy lifestyle by giving staff the tools to begin creating their own personal goals.   We have monthly salad luncheons with a fitness coach who provides information on basic nutrition, eating habits, food groups, portion sizes, healthy options, reading labels, fitness and weight training. We also share recipes and receive simple guides to keep us on track with our goals. Each employee met one on one with the fitness coach to set up their personal goals

With healthy eating comes exercise, so we offered a one to one initial meeting with a fitness coach. Staff received a hand out, food journal and nutrition questionnaire for them to complete prior meeting with the fitness coach. At the meeting, employees discussed their current nutrition. Plans were then made to personalize their macros (food, carbs and protein) and/or line up calories with their exercise goals.

We created a “healthy living” page where information from the luncheons and ideas from staff could be posted and shared with others throughout our agency. This includes recipes, exercises, food labeling, etc.

We are working to provide healthy food and snacks at meetings. At the last few staff meetings we've served water, fruit and snack bars.

Currently, we are doing a fitness challenge for the month of October. A variety of workout routines were established for home, the gym, or a combination of both. Staff report their progress online with the fitness coach who tracks their progress and provides motivation.

While we have offices and staff in 4 counties, we ran this as a pilot through our Zumbrota office and are planning to offer this to staff at all of our sites next year. 

At the Zumbrota site, we have over half of our staff actively participating in all the activities.
